A little bit about me !
In high school, I remember being out of my seat a lot - helping other students in math, chemistry, art, and German classes. After high school, my plan was to become a chemistry teacher. However, after my first year of college, I felt a huge tug to switch gears and attend a two year Bible college in southern California instead. Upon graduating from CCBC, getting married, and starting a family, I then realized that I wanted to stay at home to teach my own kids.
For over 15 years I had the privilege to not only homeschool my own children, but also teach a small chemistry pod with a hands-on lab, tutor other kids in math and reading, and more recently, work with a homeschool support program teaching a pod of students in the core subjects. While homeschooling my own kids, my husband and I ran a photography business offering portraits and wedding photography for over 10 years.
Now I get to share my experience and abilities with others by offering tutoring services and homeschool support. Working with kids for nearly two decades has given me patience and compassion, along with a joy that comes from helping others understand!
In my experience, I have used many different types of curriculum, supplemented some with my own additions, and even written a course on Japanese history for my oldest of five children. I believe that the use of multi-sensory teaching techniques, songs, and explicit instruction can aid in understanding and retention of information. When teaching, I like to be straightforward, but also believe there is room for laughter!
I am available to tutor here in the city of Carpinteria, California.
